A gorgeous Bedouin Yemeni necklace from the 1940s.  The main part has been hand woven from silver wire. Marjorie Ransom in her book about Yemeni jewelry made the observation that it was traditionally women who made this type of  loop-in-loop chain, traditionally to make belts, especially in the Hadramout region of the Yemen.  The necklace is made of this silver mesh chain and soldered onto cone finials and then this is attached to a chain ending in a hook and eye closure. The woven chain tests as silver, but the finials and closure chain do not. The necklace is in fine vintage condition.

  • Length is 52 cm or 20 1/2 inches (but can be adjusted down by hooking the hook in any of the links in the chain).
  • The width of the woven chain is 1 cm (3/8") across.
  • Weight is 66 grams.
