Vintage Carved Mother of Pearl and Sterling Silver Bethlehem Star Brooch
This beautiful Bethlehem star brooch is from the 1940s and was made in Bethlehem from carved mother of pearl. The theme is the Star of Bethlehem, the five pointed star carved in relief and surrounded by butterflies. This work has been traditional to Bethlehem from at least the 18th century. It is far superior to the modern work nowadays done by machines rather than by hand. The brooch is mounted on a sterling silver frame surrounded by filigree work.
The back of the brooch is marked "sterling". The spring ring closure mechanism for the pin works well though the pin is slightly bent. The brooch is in generally good vintage condition with light scratches.
