Vintage Niello and Silver Iraqi Belt Buckle with Dagger Clasp
A lovely niello and silver Iraqi belt buckle made in Iraq in the 1940s. Iraqi silversmiths are famous for their niello-ed or "mhabbar" jewelry. Two separate parts form the buckle. They are held together by a silver dagger attached to a chain to prevent its loss. The niello decoration depicts the life by the two great rivers of Euphrates and Tigris, but strangely also depict pyramids of Egypt. The buckle is not marked but tests positive for high grade silver. It is in good vintage condition.
