A nice Balkan silver ring, most likely from Bulgaria, but this type of ring was worn in other parts of the Balkan region. It is made of a cylinder the middle of which is made with winding silver wire. The sides where the face meets the band, there is an applique flower. The top is also worked in filigree and raised into a dome and decorated with applique and granulation. The single band is decorated with roping. There is something trapped within the body of the ring, such that it rattles a little.

This type of ring is known in Bulgaria as stolovat. It is in good vintage condition considering it is from the first half of the 20th  century. There are 2 little silver balls missing on the top.

  • The weight is 5.59 grams.
  • The upper side diameter of the crown is about 1.7 cm (5/8").
  • The inside diameter of the ring is about 1.9 cm (3/4").
  • The size is close to 8 on my mandrel.

A similar ring can be found in the British Museum's collection:
