This beautiful Berber silver anklet is from 20th-century Morocco, probably from Meknes. It was worn by city women and was usually lined with velvet on the inside. Locally, it is known as khalkhal

Made from silver by the technique of casting and embellished with two studs holding an applique flower. The anklet is hinged and wider at the front. It closes with a pin that is attached on both sides to the studs with a silver chain.

The bracelet is marked with a ram's head mark on the inside. This mark has been used to assay small objects for 800 silver in Morocco since 1925. This lovely foot bracelet is in good condition. It has hand-etched marks on the inside: Y and 12. There is a similar bracelet in the Museum Quai-Branly.

  • Inner circumference 19.5 cm (7 3/4").
  • The inner diameter is 6.2 cm (2 1/2").
  • The width is 4 cm (1 1/2") at the widest.
  • Weight is 93 g.
