Vintage Silver Dagger Scabbard or Hilt

This is an intriguing piece. It is made of silver (positive on a scratch test) and has open work on the face as well as granulation and hand-etched patterns. I am not sure if it is a scabbard for a dagger or a hilt. It was sourced in Egypt in the 1980s or 90s but could be older. The object has a loop at the back, possibly to hang from a belt.

Length 15 cm or 5 7/8. The width is 6.5 cm or 2 1/2" at its widest. Weight is 75 g.
