A formidable silver flared Siwa cuff, called Swar, part of a woman's dowry at marriage. This Berber bracelet was worn in the Siwa Oasis in Egypt as well as by other North African countries. It is made by one of Egypt's most renowned silversmiths, Mohammed Al Makkawi. It is made of 800 silver and has several marks on the inside and the knobs. It carries the three part Egyptian silver hallmark which dates the bracelet to 1953 upto 1959. The various signature marks of Mohammed Al Makkawi are also clearly visible.
The bracelet is flared at its ends and thinner at the front with two knobs on either side. There are various hand etched decorations. It is in fine vintage condition.
