Vintage Silver Pair of Tunisian or Algerian Berber Anklets
Vintage Silver Pair of Tunisian or Algerian Berber Anklets
This is quite an old pair of Berber anklets from Tunisia or Algeria from the first half of the twentieth century at the latest. They are locally known as Khalkhal or rdif and were worn traditionally both as anklets and as armlets. This pair is nicely engraved with geometric designs and has two ridged parts at the center. There is a round depression in the middle of each ridge. Could it be stylized eyes protecting the wearer? The detailing of a flower on the pointy finials is lovely. There is nice wear on the silver. This pair was worn and loved.
These lovely anklets are unmarked, but they test positive for silver on a scratch test.
