Antique Ottoman Silver and Niello Amulet Holder with Silver Coins
This 19 century amulet holder was worn as a necklace and carried inside it Koranic verses or incantations to protect its wearer. The niello is very fine and both the amulet holder and the coins test as silver (the rings that join them are not). It has three bails on top. This type of amulet holders was worn all over the ottoman empire. This particular one I believe is from the Middle East. One side of the tube opens, the other is sealed. The amulet holder is in good vintage condition.
Length 8 cm or 3" diameter is 1.3 cm (under 1/2"). Top of bails to bottom of coin danbles is 4.5 cm (1 3/4"). Weight is 25 g
