Antique Silver Nepal Double Makara Anklet or Foot Bracelet
The rare anklet, called kalli, is an antique made of silver sheeting shaped with repousse and scrollwork as a double makara or dragon whose scales are decorated on the face, top and bottom. The hollow anklet ends in opposing large mango-shaped bulbs. This type of anklet was worn by Nepali married women until the birth of a first child.
The anklet does test for silver, but it is not high grade..It is still in its original state and needs a good clean. It also has a few spots of verdigris (from the copper in the silver alloy). The seam on one of the mango bulbs is not completely sealed.
Inner circumference is 26 cm (10 1/4"). Inner diameter is 9 cm (3 1/2"). Width at bulbs is 3 cm (1 1/4"). Weight is 92 g,
