Vintage Berber Kabyle Small Silver, Enamel and Coral Fibula
This small fibula is made of silver and bright orange, green and blue enamel. They would have been worn by Kabyle women as shoulder pins to fasten their clothes. The fibula has three pieces of Mediterranean coral cabochons in bezels. Coral was thought to protect the wearer from evil and contain good luck as well as increase fertility.
This brooch was probably made by a Jewish silversmith in the second half of the century. In good vintage condition with vivid enameling.
6.5 cm in length (2 1/2"). 4 cm (1 1/2") at widest. Weight is 7.8 grams.
