Vintage Middle Eastern Necklace - Filigree Silver and Faceted Carnelian
A beautiful handmade Middle Eastern necklace with a big filigree pendant decorated with carnelians. From the pendant hang 6 long dangles that include faceted carnelians and filigree silver beads and end in filigree discs. The handmade chain, typical of the region closes with a simple hook and eye mechanism. The necklace's elements all test as silver including the long handmade chain.
This lovely necklace, most likely originating in Egypt or Turkey, was made in the early part of the twentieth century. The pendant may have had a back at one point, because there are two hinge or clasp protrusions as well as a ridge at the back (see last photo). It was likely re-purposed to make the central pendant of this magnificent necklace.
