Vintage Ottoman Amulet Necklace from Greece or the Balkans

A lovely Ottoman necklace with clear Ottoman influences originating in the Balkans or Greece. The central pendant is a triangular amulet which opens from the top by sliding the lid to insert an incantation to protect its wearer. The tiangular shape of the pendant is thought to have an amuletic, protective function in itself.

The necklace is made of mixed metals with brass/copper at the core, though the decorations, coins and chain test as silver.  The necklace has lost two of its coin dangles and a glass bead on the top right hand side. Also the sliding lid does not cover the entire length of the opening.

Length 76 cm (30"). The triangular pendant measures  7 x 4.5 cm (2 3/4 x 1 3/4") with the dangles adding another 4.5 cm (1 3/4"). Weight is 80 grams.
