Vintage Ottoman Necklace
This pretty necklace displays clear Ottoman influences and originates most likely in the Balkans, though I can't rule out a Middle Eastern origin. The triangle has a stapled filigree front with four bezeled faceted glass cabochons in red and green, used often in Bulgarian jewelry. The tiangular pendant is thought to have an amuletic, protective function.
The necklace is made of mixed metals with brass/copper at the core. The chain is handmade. I don't think that the end dangles are original to the necklace. The beads look like more recent additions (one is different than the other 6). The original pendants were I believe coins. Regardless, the necklace is graceful and beautiful.
Length 66.5 cm (26"). The triangular pendant measures 6.5 x 6.5 cm (2 1/2 x 2 1/2") with the dangles adding another 5 cm (2"). Weight is 60 grams.
