Vintage Silver and Enamel Kabyle Hoop Earrings
A lovely pair of silver and enamel Kabyle hoop earrings from Algeria Mid Century. The pair known locally as tigwedmatin have thick ear wire and end with three silver drops on each side. The wires lead to a two sided finial. On one side there is a red resin cabochon (normally this would be coral) and on the other a chameleon eye shaped dome decorated with green, blue and yellow enamel. A similar pair can be seen in Wolf Dieter Seiwert's Jewellery from the Orient.
Please note that the earwires are thicker than western standard ear wires, as is normal with ethnic pieces.
- Hoop is about 2.5 cm or 1 inch.
- The dome is 1.2 cm or 1/2 an inch.
- Weight is 8.9 grams.
