Vintage Silver Indian Amulet Necklace
This is an impressive silver indian amulet necklace from Kerala, India from the 1940s or 50s. Worn by both male and female dancers as well as for daily wear and normally worn with the amulet pointing to the front of a belt. (Oppi Untracht : Traditional Jewelry of India).
This necklace has a handmade mesh silver chain through which a large crescent shaped amulet pendant is threaded by three bails. The amulet itself is beautifully decorated with fine roping and granulation. It is in good shape with just a few dings and bumps and a small floret missing from the top of the middle bail. The necklace closes with an s closure.
- Length of chain is 66 cm or 26 inches.
- The pendant is 11 cm or 4 1/2" long and 4cm (1 1/2") wide without the bails.
