This is a fine specimen of an Omani Shahid ring from the 1940s or 50s worn on the index finger.  "Shahid" means witness. It is called that because the finger that it's worn on, the index finger, is raised to perform the Islamic proclamation or shahada: "There is no God but God and Mohamad is his prophet."

The shahid ring is only one type of several used by Omani women who often liked to wear rings not only on their fingers but on their toes as well

This ring, made from silver has hand incised circular and line patterns and the ring is arrow-shaped.  It is in good vintage condition and tests as good grade silver.

  • The face measures 3.8 x 1.8 cm (nearly 1 1/2  x 5/8").
  • It weighs 11.2 grams.
  • It measures US 9 1/2 at its middle.
