Vintage Tribal Silver Upper Arm Bracelet from Rajasthan, India
This is a very impressive upper arm bracelet from Rajasthan, India. It has columns of high grade silver wires lined up next to each other and threaded on thick cotton thread. Ususally, the closure on these bracelets is also made from cotton fabric and thread and closes with a slip knot, but this one has a silver chain and a hook that must have replaced the original closure. It works just as well since you can adjust it to the size of your arm. The chain tests as high grade silver too and ends in small little bells. In good vintage condition. You can see an old photo from the Library of Congress collection from the Frank and Frances Carpenter collection that the court woman is wearing a similar bazuband just above her elbow.
Width is 6.5 cm (2 1/2"). Inner circumference of the main part is 13 cm (5") and the chain is 18 cm (7") long. Weight is 208.1 g.
