This is a gorgeous Mid-Century Bedouin pendant from Yemen or Saudi Arabia. The pendant is rectangular in shape and is sealed. It probably holds inside a parchment containing verses of the Koran or other protective incantations. The amulet holder ends in 9 bell dangles and hangs from a thin chain that is definitely a later addition. The front of the amulet is heavily decorated with applique drops and diamonds and roping. The bail is decorated with a series of applique diamonds. The middle of the pendant has a diamond-shaped red glass cabochon. The red color has a protective function in Bedouin jewelry.
The necklace is in good vintage condition for its age.
The pendant measures around 8.5 cm (3 7/8") in length.
With the bail, the pendant is 5.5 cm (2 1/4") high.
