This beautiful belt purse, locally known as kitab, is made of mixed metals and decorated with fine filigree and applique over three sides. The belt purse was used by men to carry a copy of the Qur'an. The purse has a loop at the back to attach it to a belt. It is hinged and closes with a pin mechanism. Usually, it would be tied with a chain to the purse, but the chain on this purse is missing.

A beautiful object from the first half of the twentieth century and is in good vintage condition. A similar object can be seen in Marjorie Ransom's Book Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba  as well as in the collections of the Quai-Branly museum.

Dimensions:

  • Length 6 cm  (just under 3") at longest.
  • Width is 7.5 cm (3") at the widest.
  • The depth is 1.8 cm (3/4").
  • Weight is 60 g.
