A beautiful silver and turquoise Tibetan single earring from the second half of the twentieth century known as aylong. A similar earring can be seen at the American Museum of Natural History Collection. Women used to wear a pair, while men wore a single earring right through the extended ear hole and the earring was supported by a thread that would attach to head.  The earring is made of silver and has two polished turquoise stones, one smaller tear shaped and another larger oval shaped. They are both set in a raised bezel that is decorated with roping and granulation.

  • The diameter of the hoop is 3.5 cm (1 3/8").
  • The big turquoise is 1.8 x 1.2 (3/4 x 1/2").
  • Weight is 25.6 grams.
  • The earrings hoop is 4 mm thick.
