A remarkable Berber silver Tunisian bracelet from Kairouan, locally known as mkas berus. The cuff has beautifully incised finials showing a couple of flowers. The bracelet has a ridge with chevron patterns on the center. The number 3 is stamped on its inside, an old sizing system for Tunisia bracelets. The bracelet is from the first part of the twentieth century and is made of high grade silver. In good vintage condition, but does have scratches commensurate with age.

A similar example can be seen in Anne Van Cutsem's book A World of Bracelets.  The museum of Quai Branly also has a similar bracelet in their collection (71.1964.18.35).

Dimensions:

  • Inner circumference is gently adjustable but currently it is 19.5 cm (7 3/4") including the gap.
  • Inner diameter is 6.5 cm ( 2 1/2") adjustable.
  • Width is 2.5 cm (1") for the body and 3 cm (1 1/4") at the ends.
  • Weight is 47 g.
