This is a gorgeous necklace featuring a square amuletic pendant. It is mid-century worn by the Bedouin women of Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The pendant is square in shape and opens on one side to place a parchment containing verses of the Koran or other protective incantations. The pendant ends in 6 bell dangles and the pendant hangs from a handmade chain. The front of the amulet has 3 red glass cabochons. The red color has a protective function in Bedouin jewelry.
The necklace is in good vintage condition for its age, however, the central glass cabochon is cracked.
The pendant measures around 6 x 6 cm (2 3/8 x 2 3/8") with an extra 4.5 cm (1 1/2") for the dangles. The chain is 67 cm (26 1/2"). Weight is 120 g.
